Understanding Resource Limits & How to Upgrade
So, your website is slowing down, timing out, or maybe even crashing—and now you’re wondering what the hell is going on. The answer? You’ve likely hit your resource limits.
Web hosting isn’t one big, unlimited bucket of power—each hosting plan comes with a set amount of resources (storage, bandwidth, etc.). If your site outgrows your plan, things start breaking.
Let’s break down what resource limits are, how they affect your site, and what to do when you need more power.
What Are Resource Limits?
Your hosting plan comes with a dedicated amount of resources to keep your website running smoothly. When you exceed those limits, performance drops, errors pop up, and in extreme cases, your site may temporarily stop working.
Here’s what’s being limited and why it matters:
Threads (Processor Power)
- Handles processing tasks like loading pages, running scripts, and executing WordPress functions.
- If you max out Thread usage, your website slows down or even crashes.
RAM (Memory)
- Think of this as your website’s short-term memory—it keeps things running smoothly while multiple processes are active.
- If you use too much RAM, your site may become unresponsive or show “503 Service Unavailable” errors.
Storage (Disk Space)
- This is where your website’s files and databases are stored.
- If you run out of disk space, you won’t be able to upload new content, and databases may fail.
Bandwidth & Concurrent Connections
- Bandwidth is the amount of data transferred between your site and visitors.
- Concurrent connections are how many people (or bots) are interacting with your site at the same time.
- If you hit the limit, your website may become slow or unreachable until usage resets.
Signs That You've Hit Your Limits
Not sure if you’re maxing out your resources? Here are some dead giveaways:
❌ Website is slow or timing out
❌ Frequent 503 or 508 errors (Server Overloaded)
❌ Can’t upload new files or update WordPress (Storage Full)
❌ Traffic spikes cause downtime
❌ Frequent “database connection” errors
If you’re experiencing any of these issues, it’s time to check your usage and possibly upgrade your plan.
How to Check Your Resource Usage
Step 1: Log into the Media Giant Hosting Client Portal
✅ Click on My Services from the main menu.
✅ Select the hosting account you want to check.
✅ Look for the Resource Usage section—this will show your CPU, RAM, storage, and bandwidth usage.
Step 2: Look for Red Flags
- Storage Almost Full? You need a bigger plan or to clean up files.
- Bandwidth Running Low? Either upgrade or optimize your content delivery.
How to Upgrade Your Hosting Plan
If you’re hitting your limits, upgrading is the best way to ensure your website runs fast and smoothly without interruptions.
Step 1: Upgrade Your Plan
✅ Go to the Media Giant Hosting Client Portal
✅ Click My Services
✅ Select the hosting account you want to upgrade
✅ Click on the three-dot menu next to your plan and choose Upgrade/Downgrade
✅ Select your new plan and confirm the upgrade
Step 2: Upgrade Your Performance Level (For Managed WordPress Hosting Users)
If you’re on our Managed WordPress Hosting, you can increase your performance level instead of upgrading the whole plan.
- All Managed WordPress Hosting plans start at Level 1.
- You can upgrade to Level 2 or Level 3 for more Threads, RAM, and faster performance.
- To upgrade:
✅ Go to My Services > Select your WordPress hosting account
✅ Choose Upgrade Performance Level
Step 3: Check Your Site’s Performance After Upgrading
After upgrading, your website should feel significantly faster and more stable. If you still have issues, contact our support team to diagnose any remaining bottlenecks.
